Can you describe the time when you first realized that creating was something you absolutely had to do?
In grade six I was given an assignment to write and illustrate my own children’s book. There was a table in the classroom filled with books for inspiration. Something unexpected happened when I picked up a copy of East o The Sun, West o The Moon, by P.J.Lynch. The pictures were so incredibly beautiful that I vowed not to make my own book until I could draw as good as that! I ended up getting an F for not handing it in at all, but that tiny rebellion sparked a life long relationship with drawing.
What’s your favorite thing you’ve ever created?
That is a tough one…. I think that anytime I am able to color outside the lines and truly be uninhibited is my favorite.
What’s the best advice you ever had about how to be more creative?
Have the courage to fail.
Are there other coloring book artists or illustrators that inspire you?
All of them! Thank you illustrators everywhere, for being brave and putting yourself out there!!
